Limitations

Will compressing reduce my image's visible quality?
At moderate settings (around 70-85 quality for JPG/WEBP) the difference is usually hard to notice, since these formats are designed to discard the least visible detail first. At very low quality settings you will start to see visible artifacts like blocky edges or color banding — the live preview updates instantly so you can see exactly where that trade-off happens for your image.
What's the best quality setting to use?
There's no single right answer — it depends on how much you value file size versus visual fidelity. A good starting point is 75-80 for photos, which usually cuts file size substantially with little visible loss. Watch the live preview and the before/after size comparison and pick the lowest quality that still looks acceptable to you.
Does compressing upload my image anywhere?
No. The image is loaded and re-encoded entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. It's never sent to a server, which is also why there's no file-size or usage limit imposed by a backend beyond the browser's own memory.
Can I compress a PNG file?
Yes, you can select PNG as the output format, but PNG is a lossless format, so there's no quality slider for it — re-encoding can still shrink some PNGs that carry redundant data, but if your source PNG is already well-optimized, compression may not reduce its size any further. For much bigger savings on photos, JPG or WEBP output will usually get you a smaller file.
